1794 US FRIGATE CONSTITUTION 1927 SALVAGED SHIP WOOD
OLD IRONSIDES PLAQUE BOX
Rare Collectible wood box made from ship wood salvaged from the 1794 US Frigate Constitution "Old Ironsides" during the ship's rebuild in 1927.
This box measures 7 1/4" x 4" x 2 3/4" with no hinges
A highlight is the distressed coloration of the wood - which would have been original from the ship!
Only the wood was salvaged, the fittings are not.
There are two brass plaques mounted on it and read:
On the lid:
"Old Ironsides. Launched 1797, 1804 Tripoli, 1812 Guerriere Java, 1815 Cyane Levant. U.S. Frigate Constitution."
On the bottom front
:
"This material was taken from the original hull of the U.S. Frigate Constitution, keel laid 1794, rebuilding 1927."
This box is in excellent vintage condition - see photos.
There is a crack in the bottom piece of wood.  Do not know whether this happened after production of if a cracked piece from the ship was used to construct the box
