Antique Victorian Period Black Leather Lace Up Boots EU38/US 7 1/2
Up on the auction block is a great old pair of Antique Victorian Era Black Leather Lace Up Boots in about a US 7 ½-8. The numbers inside the shafts read:
38-2 67264
which indicate these are an EU38 (somewhere between US 7 ½ and an 8). The leather is in great condition without any blemishes and being very flexible and somewhat supple. There is moderate creasing from regular wear. All the external seam work is very intact and there is very nice leather punch work along the stylish scalloped shoe line.
The inside cotton twill lining is in excellent condition with no rips, tears, or wear through. They are only a little darkened from internal leather deterioration. The internal seam work is intact. The leather insoles are in great condition and only the right boot has a felt/wool heel pad. The leather banding across the high tops and along the eyelets is in very poor condition and in a state of decomposition. There are 19 pairs of external eyelets to lace up. The leather tongues have all the cloth backing on them, but they are in a severe state of deterioration. If these boots are to be worn or used for plays, theater, or wardrobe, new leather tongue replacements will be required.
The bottom leather soles are relatively thick and in great shape with most of the leather over sole remaining. The wooden French Spool Heels appear solid and have most of the leather heel caps, although showing some wear.
