Description
These are true Caprini vintage 1960s pumps. They are a snappy twist on a 1920s male’s spectator/respondent shoe. Pumps are white ostrich with black patent leather tips and back panels, and white top stitching. There is nothing to indicate, but possibly leather inner and sole. There is a nylon, non-slip cap on the base of the chunky heels. Caprini brand is stamped in shiny silver inside the shoe. It is is clear, as is the handwritten stock and size information on inside side of shoes (see photos). No scuffing on the heels and minimal on the toe. There is minimum creasing at the toes. Very well-made classic look!Condition: Excellent vintage condition! Shoes have been worn, but are clean. Could use a good polish, but I leave that to you. These beauties have had good care and storage.

PROSPECTOR/RESPONDENT SHOES: British cobbler John Lobb, claimed to have designed the first “spectator” shoe for cricket players in 1868. These are traditionally a low-heeled, man’s oxford or brogue constructed from two contrasting colors, typically having the toe and heel cap a darker color than the main body of the shoe. They gained the nickname spectator or co-respondent shoe in the 1920s and 1930s when the style was worn by dandies of the era “prospecting” a wealthy marriage, who often became associated with divorce cases, thus earning the name co-respondent shoe. The term was a pun on the color arrangement of the shoe, and the legal description of a third party caught in flagrante delicto with the guilty party.
