Description
Victor appeared as a name on stop loss traps when they followed Gibbs design and made Two Trigger traps. which were effective but bulky. Animal Trap Co then developed and marketed a number of different Victor branded stoploss traps such as the Louisiana Special, Double Shot and Double Grips, all of which were bulky and somewhat difficult to set with cold wet hands. In the 1930s, the Animal Trap Co did a lot of development and experimentation with different stoploss designs. The trap offered here is one that was released in 1933 and marked with 33 as a name. The first version of this trap required the kill bar to be under the trap pan which sometimes resulted in a foot blocking rise of the bar. This was especially common with hind foot catches.A second version of this trap was modified to reduce this problem and the trap offered here is an example of the second model where the kill bar has been reshaped so that it no longer had to lie beneath the pan and thus reduced or eliminated the jamming problem.
The trap offered here is in very nice condition with strong springs, complete chain and ring and a well marked pan and this trap was years later used as a model for very successful Northwoods stoploss traps of two sizes and also followed by some Blake Lamb Co traps. This trap conforms to eBay policy that jaw spread may not exceed 5 1/2 inches.
