Vintage 60s HERBERT LEVINE SHOES BLOCK HEEL SLING BACK PEEP TOE POLKA DOT 6.5B
This fabulous pair of vintage Herbert Levine shoes perfectly exemplifies the mod style of the 1960s. Finding a pair in wearable condition is such a treat! Levine's work is exhibited in museums around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Of designer Beth Levin, Manolo Blahnik said "Beth Levine is without a doubt the most influential American shoe designer of the 20th century. She is to shoes what Eames is to furniture."
This particular pair features a leather covered block heel with a leather insole, outsole and slingback strap. The decorative piece over the top of the shoe is made of lucite with fun bubbles in cream, beige and tan leather -- very characteristic of Levine's whimsical style. The style number and size appears to be written on the inside of the strap.
Regarding condition, these shoes are definitely wearable, but do have some flaws. The heel of the left shoe has what looks like some water spots on the inside of the heel (and one small dot on the outside of the same heel). The toe edge of the leather on the insole is a bit scuffed, but it is under your foot when you are wearing the shoe and therefore doesn't stand out. The leather of the insole is coming up around the straps, but that's to be expected given the way the shoes are constructed and it is still glued down everywhere else. The soles still have plenty of wear left in them. Overall, the shoes will look very cute when worn.
